The Dieringer Education Foundation is thrilled to share exciting updates on the Little Sprouts Garden Project at Lake Tapps Elementary School! Thanks to generous donor support, they are expanding their existing garden area and creating more outdoor classroom space to provide hands-on learning experiences for first and third graders.
This garden serves as a place where students can explore science, nutrition, and environmental stewardship while developing responsibility and teamwork. Mrs. Coddington’s third graders and Ms. Romano’s first graders are already enjoying the refreshed beds, digging, planting, and learning as they grow.
The next phase of the project includes the installation of a chain link fence to protect the garden from deer, construction of four additional raised beds in a sunny location, and the addition of soil, a storage shed, tools, rain barrels, a small drip watering system, and gardening supplies. Mrs. Klevins’ and Mrs. Eley’s first graders will soon begin using the new garden beds for hands-on learning and exploration.
By engaging students in planting, tending, and harvesting, this project fosters a love for nature, encourages healthy eating habits, and supports cross-curricular learning. The Dieringer Education Foundation is proud to fund this "growing" project, helping to cultivate both young minds and a thriving garden at Lake Tapps Elementary.
