Thanks to the generosity of Dieringer Education Foundation donors, third-grade students at Lake Tapps Elementary are discovering the power of hands-on learning through a newly supported LEGO Robotics program—and the impact is already inspiring.
This year, students dove into the world of STEM by working collaboratively with LEGO robots to solve problems, design games, and explore basic coding concepts. One standout project had students creating their own LEGO tic-tac-toe games, encouraging teamwork, creativity, and thoughtful design as they worked together to bring their ideas to life.
Students also learned how to code robotic motors, experimenting with commands to make them spin and observing how small changes affected movement. A favorite activity involved color-coding the motors so they would respond to specific colors—an engaging way for students to connect coding with cause-and-effect, while sparking curiosity and creativity.
Beyond the technical skills, the program is helping students build confidence, perseverance, and collaboration. As third-grade teacher Michelle Beach shared, these experiences are laying the foundation for critical thinking and engineering skills while making learning exciting and meaningful.
Programs like LEGO Robotics reflect the heart of the Dieringer Education Foundation’s mission: providing students with the best educational experience possible through innovative, hands-on opportunities.
